GZA resolutions proposed for the 2011 Zionist General Counsel meeting Print E-mail

The following resolutions were tabled by the 36th World Zionist Congress to appear at the 2011 meeting of the Zionist General Counsel:

Support for Keren Kayemet L'Yisrael

The World Zionist Organization calls upon all its bodies and departments to aspire to foster, care for and preserve the land and the environment of Israel for the benefit of the future.

(JNF) Resolution (governance)

Whereas, Keren Kayemet L'Yisrael (hereinafter: KKL) was established in 1901 at the 5th World Zionist Congress in Basel, Switzerland, to serve to strengthen the harmony between the Jewish People and its historic homeland Eretz Yisrael, and

Whereas, for more than a century the KKL has served as the Jewish People's trustee of the land of Israel, responsible for land acquisition, protection and Jewish settlement throughout the country, and

Whereas, the KKL Board of Directors, at its meeting on July 8, 2008, unanimously approved the following amendment of the KKL by-laws:  "The Directors will elect a Chairman of the Board of Directors from among the members of the board of directors that will serve in a paid position. In addition the directors may appoint one paid Deputy Chairman from among the members of the board of directors who will be subordinate to the Chairman"   [בטווח הרחוק יותר: התקבלה הצעתה של גב' אור קרסין לפיה -  "הדירקטורים יבחרו יושב-ראש דירקטוריון לחברה (להלן - יושב-ראש הדירקטוריון) מתוך חברי הדירקטוריון, אשר ישמש בתפקידו בשכר. כמו כן רשאים הדירקטורים למנות סגן אחד בשכר ליושב-ראש הדירקטוריון, מתוך חברי הדירקטוריון, אשר יהיה כפוף ליושב-ראש הדירקטוריון"]  and

Whereas, the current KKL paid positions of World Co-Chair and World Deputy Co- Chair are neither identified as historical positions nor are they warranted, so that if they were to be eliminated, the result could be a more efficient and more effective KKL and there could be significant cost savings as a result of the elimination of these two paid  positions,

Now therefore, it is resolved that the 36th World Zionist Congress hereby expresses its approval of the action taken by the KKL Board of Directors as above stated, and hereby recommends that  commencing no later than the regularly scheduled meeting of the Zionist General Counsel in 2011, the KKL Board of Directors shall elect a Chairman of the Board of Directors from among the members of the board of directors who shall serve in a paid position and the KKL Board of Directors may appoint one paid Deputy Chairman from among the members of the board of directors who shall be subordinate to the chairman,

And it is further resolved that the 36th World Zionist Congress recommends that the current paid positions of World Co-Chair and World Deputy Co-Chair be eliminated by no later than the convening of the 37th World Zionist Congress.
